Wild Times at San Diego Zoo Safari Park

Did you know that the San Diego Zoo also owns a Safari Park? In Escondido, 35 miles north of downtown San Diego in the San Pasqual Valley, you’ll find a vast wildlife sanctuary with 3,500 animals from 400 different species. San Diego Zoo Safari Park also has a beautiful botanical garden.

If you go, check out my roundup of Safari Park ticket deals and Bang tips below.

What I like about Safari Park is they give the animals a larger and more natural space to live in than most zoos. Like most people, I wish all animals could live happy and healthy in their natural habitat.

Popular regions of the park include the African Plains, Gorilla Forest, Asian Savanna, Condor Ridge, Tiger Territory, and Elephant Valley.

You can also enjoy special shows and presentations, including my favorite, Cheetah Run, or check out the Raptor Flight and Frequent Flyers Bird Shows, or Tiger Talk.

I recommend taking the tram around the park to get your bearings. Once you’re in the park, you can upgrade your visit to include special activities, like the caravan tour, ropes course or the zip line.

I’ve never taken one of their safari tours, but friends say it’s a special experience and worth the extra fee.

Safari Park Botanical Garden

For general admission, of course, you can get tickets at the gate, but this can get expensive if you’re taking the family. The Bang way to go is to find discount tickets online.
